Date yourself (in Excel) 📅

SEQUENCE is about to sweep you off your feet

Hey there! Chances are, you know Excel well enough to hold your own. Sort, filter, the occasional formula. But when a gargantuan dataset lands on your desk? Panic.

“Holding your own” turns into hours of manual labor, late nights cleaning reports, and “please don’t ask me about this in the meeting” stress. 😖

There’s a better way! Join my free Data Analysis and Pivot Tables class, and in just one hour, you’ll know how to get instant summaries from thousands of rows, uncover trends that’ll impress your boss, and save 3+ hours every week.

Create a Custom Calendar in Excel 📅

POV: You glance over at your coworker’s screen and see them manually typing out every date in a 2026 calendar. All 365 of them. One. Cell. At. A. Time.

What’s the first thing to go?

  1. The arrow keys (RIP).

  2. Their eyesight.

  3. Their lunch break. đŸ«

There’s no wrong answer—but there is a wrong way to build a calendar in Excel, and you’re watching it in real time. 😅

Let’s help them out with a single formula: =SEQUENCE(53,7,"1/1/2026")

Notice how the formula only updated the first four dates. No problem! All you have to do is select your data and switch your Number Format from General to Short Date.

That’s it! Here’s how it works:

  • SEQUENCE generates a sequential list of numbers (or dates!) in an array

  • 53 is the number of weeks in a year (it’s technically 52 but since the year starts mid-week we add an extra one so the calendar doesn’t get cut off!)

  • 7 is the number of days in a week

  • “1/1/2026” is your starting date

Together, SEQUENCE builds out a grid that starts on January 1st and automatically fills in every date from there.

And just like that, lunch is back on the table. 😎

Shoot Your Shot Wednesdays đŸ’«

Picture a door. đŸšȘ Behind it could be a dream job, a promotion, a coffee chat with one of your idols, or a collab with a brand you’ve been obsessed with for years.

Push the door open and find something there? The entire trajectory of your life changes. But if nothing’s there? Nothing changes! Life goes on and you walk away unscathed.

Do you open the door?

Most of us would say absolutely. And yet, when opening the door means sending a cold email to someone we admire, we suddenly come up with a million excuses not to do it. 😓

Enter: creator and entrepreneur Anna Mack. She recently went viral on Threads for coining "Shoot Your Shot Wednesdays” to get over this exact hump.

Here’s how it works: On Sunday, Anna picks a name from her long list of dream clients. On Wednesday morning, she blasts music, writes the most compelling email she can muster, and hits send.

Anna's POV is that rebranding a scary thing with a catchy name and standing calendar invite makes it feel more doable (and dare we say
fun?).

Personally, Anna’s inspired me to start Awkward Email Tuesdays, where every Tuesday I follow-up with people who haven’t responded yet. 😅 Maybe yours is Formula Fridays, where you learn a new Excel formula every Friday, or Audacious April, where you finally ask for that raise.

In short? Give your scary thing a catchy name, schedule it, and push that door open. You might be surprised what's on the other side. đŸ’«

Thanks for reading! Before we part ways: Last week we made a typo in the newsletter, and our eagle-eyed readers were kind enough to flag it. We’ve since fixed it on the online version (which you can find right here).

Thank you for pointing this out!
