And how to auto-size Word docs!

Hey there! Time fliesā€”Miss Excel just celebrated our third birthday! šŸ„¹ā¤ļøWhether youā€™ve been here since the beginning (read: my OG TikTok dancing days) or are new to the Miss Excel community, I am so grateful youā€™re here. The best is yet to come!

Organize Your Documents

ā€œCould you retype this document so it fits on one page?ā€

I used to have a miniature meltdown every time my boss asked me this. šŸ«  Iā€™d spend an hour tweaking font sizes and types.

And if I tried moving or resizing the images in the doc? Forget it. If youā€™re on Word, you know how moving images can lead to total chaos.

This tip will save you a ton of time and headaches if youā€™ve ever been in the same boat. Hereā€™s how to auto-size Word documents to one page in a snap:

Step 1) In the Quick Access Toolbar scroll to ā€œCustomize Quick Access Toolbarā€ (thatā€™s the downward arrow!)

Step 2) Under ā€œChoose commandsā€¦,ā€ select ā€œAll Commandsā€

Step 3) Scroll all the way down to ā€œShrink One Page.ā€ Select it, click ā€œAdd,ā€ and hit ā€œOKā€

Step 4) Now, the ā€œShrink One Pageā€ button will appear on your toolbar. Just click on it and boom! Your document is sized.

Weā€™re Expanding Our Amazing Team! šŸ„³

Iā€™m so excited to announce that the Miss Excel team is growing and weā€™re looking for two new incredible additions! More details are below: ā¬‡ļø

You can apply right here. We canā€™t wait to meet you!

You Are Not What You Make

For the next few seconds, create a mental tally of all your highly valuable professional skills. šŸ”¢

Maybe thatā€™s Excel, copywriting, public speaking, negotiation, or creating bomb PowerPoint presentations (hey, someone in the office has to do it!).

Now, imagine those skills being half as valuable five years from now.

The World Economic Forum says the half-life of a professional skill is five years. And that change is made all the more drastic by technological advances (*cough* AI *cough*) that are going to significantly change the job market. In fact, some 47% of U.S. jobs are at risk of automation.

ā€œOkay, Kat, but what does this mean for me professionally?!ā€

Two things: First, itā€™s important to continue learning new skills so you can keep up. šŸƒ But more importantly, itā€™s critical to define yourself by the value you create instead of what you make.

This reframe is how youā€™ll be able to adapt to the world around you and become resilient. For example, take the VHS rental chain Blockbuster, as mentioned in Chris Doā€™s video, Reinventing Yourself:

Blockbuster defined itself as a home movie rental service (what they do) instead of the place for film fanatics to watch movies at home (the value they create). If Blockbuster had seen the bigger picture, they couldā€™ve adapted to the evolving marketplace to become Netflix. šŸ“¼

And this doesnā€™t just apply to businessesā€”it applies to people, too! In my case, I donā€™t define myself by my skills and their output (ā€œI use TikTok to create Excel tip videosā€).

Instead, I focus on the value I create (ā€œI help people become confident at workā€). This has opened up how I see myself, leading the Miss Excel brand to expand into PowerPoint, augmented reality, and AI. šŸ‘€Ā

Itā€™s a little scary to realize the skills of today might not be as important in the future. But defining yourself by who you serve instead of what you make will transform how you see your future self.

And that means growing with the world instead of against it. šŸŒ±

Get this: Last week, a spreadsheet error led Austria to announce the wrong election results. This is just another reminder that the world really does run on Excel. šŸ˜‚

Stay Exceling,

Kat
