The Pizza Trick That’ll Change How You See Excel 🍕
Few things test your patience like a tote bag constantly slipping off your shoulder, your jeans getting caught on a door handle, and…having to manually sum Excel data. 🫠
For example, say you’re tracking pizza sales across different shops. The goal? Calculate the sales total of each slice (cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom).

Instead of doing this the slow way, let’s let Excel do the heavy lifting (because life’s too short to count pepperoni sales by hand).
Here’s how:
Step 1) Clear the column where you want your results
Step 2) In your desired cell, type =GROUPBY(B2:B37,C2:C37,SUM)

Step 3) Hit enter, and Excel does the rest!

Maybe you’re not managing pizza stores (unless you are—in which case, can I get a slice? 🍕). But this formula works for lots of other scenarios, from totaling expenses by department, sales by region, and even project hours by team members.

Trick Yourself Into Having a Good Time 🎈
Chuck Palahniuk, the author of Fight Club, had a big problem.
After years of book touring, he started to resent it. With the sleepless hotel nights, early-morning flights, and airport fast food, his patience and enthusiasm were wearing thin.
But promoting books is part of a writer's job. Quitting wasn’t an option. So he asked himself: How can I trick myself into having a good time?
Chuck got creative. He ditched the formality and turned book signings into shows. He’d hand out plastic tiaras to people who asked questions, encourage the audience to wear pajamas, show up in a bathrobe himself, and toss stuffed penguins and tigers into the crowd.
Suddenly, Chuck didn’t mind traveling for these work events as much. In fact, he couldn’t wait to get them started.
We can all learn something from Chuck’s method. We spend so much time powering through the hard stuff when we could pause and ask: How can I trick myself into having a good time?
That could look like this:
Hours of data entry ahead? Put on a Harry Potter playlist to feel like you’re studying at the Hogwarts Library. 🪄
Buried under emails? Set a timer and race yourself. Turn your inbox into a video game!
Struggling to understand Excel? Watch a video where the teacher is dancing, singing, and wearing a costume (😉).
This approach to getting the must-dos done encourages us to have more ✨ fun ✨ in our day-to-day lives. What's your version of the pajama tour? 💭

The problem: A cluttered worksheet. The solution: Slanted headers.
If you’re doing this in Excel, you might be draining hours of your time.
