Joy Is a Competitive Superpower 🎉

Last month, superstar Alysa Liu won the Olympic gold medal in figure skating. ⛸️ But that’s not the only reason she made headlines: It was how she skated—dancing, laughing, and all around having a blast the entire time.

The craziest part? Figure skating used to make Alysa miserable. 

In 2022, she was burnt out after years of strict training, going as far as staying up late before practice “to make time pass slower” before she had to show up at the rink. That’s how much she dreaded it. 🫠 When she was 16, right after competing in the Beijing Olympics, she quit. 

Two years later, Alysa returned to the sport with a totally new approach. It was all about having fun on her own terms.

I danced to songs like Ice Ice Baby and So Fresh and So Clean, and never stressed about “metrics” or “strategy.” Looking back, that energy is no small part of why Miss Excel took off.
