Never Calculate a Birthday Again 🎂

A few years ago, my boss asked my coworker to update the company directory with everyone's age. I remember strolling by her desk and seeing her literally hunched over her computer, counting on her fingers, muttering:

“Okay, Harry was born in 1980. It’s 2021 now. That means he’s…41. Next, Hermione was born in 1971, so if I just subtract…”

There’s a better way. 😅 I showed her how to do this instead:

Here’s the formula to do the birthday math automatically for you:

Step 1) Type in =DATEDIF(B2,TODAY(),”Y”)

Step 2) Hit enter. Done! Now the ages automatically populate.

💡 How it works: Excel takes the birthday in B2, compares it with today’s date, and counts how many complete years have passed between them. The “Y” tells Excel to give you the unit in years

Why the Best Opportunities Go Unclaimed ⚡

Imagine you’re halfway through your senior year of high school when a letter arrives about a college scholarship. You could 1) apply or 2) toss it aside, thinking, “It’s too competitive. No one wins these things anyway.”

This exact moment happened to travel influencer Gabby Beckford when she was 18. She chose to apply and…she won. But do you know what one of the scholarship organizers said to her during the awards ceremony?

“I wish more people had applied.”

It turns out they had 14 scholarships available, but only 12 people applied. Think about that for a second! Because people pre-rejected themselves, assuming fierce competition, two life-changing opportunities sat there untouched.

Gabby’s story is a reminder that sometimes, your biggest competition isn’t other people. It’s your own assumption that you don’t stand a chance.

  • Zoom In: Think of it as a paradox. ➡️

  • The bigger the opportunity, the more people tell themselves, "There's no way," and the fewer people actually apply.

The next time you see an opportunity, don’t pre-reject yourself. Go for it. While everyone else assumes it’s impossible, be the one brave enough to actually try. ✨

Now that’s a shortcut worth saving. 🤩
