Never Do the Same Calculations in Excel Again
Do you find yourself doing the same calculations in Excel over and over again?
Then custom functions are about to become your new best friend. Introducing: LAMBDA.
💡 Excel Tip: What is the Excel LAMBDA function? Simple: It lets you create and modify your own formulas and reuse them throughout your workbooks.
For example: Let’s use LAMBDA to create a Fahrenheit to Celsius calculator.
Step 1) In your desired cell, write =LAMBDA(TEMPF,(5/9)*(TEMPF-32))(A2)
Here’s a close-up of the syntax: =LAMBDA(PARAMETER 1, PARAMETER 2, CALCULATION)(VALUE 1, VALUE 2)
Step 2) Go to Formulas > Define Name
Step 3) Write tempc in the Name box. The Scope automatically defaults to Workbook (no need to change it!)
Step 4) In Refers to type =LAMBDA(TEMPO,(5/9)*(TEMPS-32)))
Step 5) Click Ok and you’re done! Now you can use =tempC like any other function.
My Excelerator Course is full of easy Excel tips just like this one…and is part of the Complete Microsoft Office Suite Bundle!

The ‘3 You’ Productivity (and Gratitude) Hack
A few years ago, I was browsing r/productivity on Reddit when I stumbled on a tip I’ll never forget: To become your best self, develop appreciation for the “three yous.”
The three what?!
The commenter was referring to the three versions of us—our current, past, and future selves—that help us tap into a powerful growth cycle.
Let’s see it in action:
➜ You’re having a bad day. Your mood plummets as you get caught in a negative thinking spiral.
Pause and reflect on a good decision you made yesterday. Did you finish a module in Excel? Go to the gym? Read a chapter in that book you swore you’d read?
Thank your past self. They’re proof you’re capable of productive choices. And when we express gratitude for our past efforts, our perspective shifts from negativity to appreciation.
➜ You’re procrastinating. There’s something you know you should do. But motivation? Never heard of her.
It’s time to do a solid for your future self. Nervous about messaging your boss to ask for a raise? Dreading going on a run today to prep for your upcoming 5K? Sorry, current self—it’s time to overcome discomfort to set future you up for success.
Thanking my past self and taking action for my future self has been one of the best things I’ve done for building momentum and self-appreciation for my current self.
Try it out! 🙂
