The Q&A Youâll Want to Stick Around For
Work can be hectic: emails are missed, questions go unanswered, and productivity takes a hit. To combat this, Notion recently launched a new AI feature called Q&A!
If Notion serves as your companyâs digital library, then Q&A functions as your automatic, specialized librarian. Q&A understands your company, previous business decisions, and meeting notes by accessing your Notion workspace.
It surfaces accurate and relevant answers to any of your questions, including dynamic information like statuses for ongoing initiatives. No more digging through documents for granular tidbits or requesting project updates ad nauseam.
The best news? If you're already a Notion AI user, just head over to your workspaceâQ&A is included in all existing Notion AI subscriptions.
And for everyone ready to enhance their Notion experience, you can get started with Notion AI for only $10 a month.

POV: Youâre ready to graduate from being an âExcel newbie.â You know how to use basic functions such as SUM and AVERAGE, enter data, and format cells. Itâs time to show your boss youâre capable of more. ButâŠwhere should you start?
Your boss, after you learn this function. đ
Thatâs when Lookup Functions come into play.
These functions (otherwise known as XLOOKUP and VLOOKUP) help you search for and manage data in larger tablesâa key skill to have in Excel. But my favorite function out of the two? XLOOKUP.
XLOOKUP fetches the data youâre looking for. Unlike VLOOKUP, which only searches from left to right, XLOOKUP can look up in any directionâsuper useful if youâre dealing with a large data set.
Hereâs an example: Say you have a spreadsheet with a list of countries and their population. Your goal is to surface Italyâs population. đźđč
Step 1) In your separate column, type what you want to find (in this case, âItalyâ). Then in the cell adjacent, begin your formula with =XLOOKUP
Step 2) In the (lookup_value), insert the cell that contains the search term as the first input. In our case, thatâs D5 for âItaly.â Our formula is now =XLOOKUP(D5,
Step 3) Next, letâs insert the lookup_array and return_array (in that order) to our formula. Itâs now =XLOOKUP(D5,A2:A26,B2:B26).
Step 4) Hit enter and voila! XLOOKUP magically surfaces the population of Italy (itâs 60 million in case you were curious đ).
Weâve just scratched the surface of what XLOOKUP can do. If youâre ready to reach that next level (and really wow your boss), sign up for my class! Weâll cover XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, and more time-saving hacks. đĄ
The Little-Known Skill Thatâll Land You a Promotion
Here at Miss Excel, weâre all about hard skills: Google Sheets, PowerPoint, OneNote, and of courseâŠExcel. đ But I wanted to switch things up today and share the single best soft skill that catapulted my career.
In one word? Initiative.
âKat, thatâs pretty vague. Do you just mean getting things done?!â
YesâŠand no! To have initiative is to know exactly how youâre getting from Point A to Point B. Hereâs a definition from organizational scientist Adam Grant to help you understand:
To show initiative is one of the fastest ways to land a promotion. Instead of being someone who âwaits for orders,â you lay out action plansâand thatâs guaranteed to impress your boss.
The secret? Initiative mostly boils down to over-communication.
Hereâs an example: The next time your boss assigns you a project, explain in detail how youâll get the project done and when. Author Benyamin Elias has a great example:
Sounds way better, right?! There are three main benefits to this, as Benyamin explains:
Updating your boss every 2â3 days will help them know exactly whatâs on your plateâso they donât pile on additional to-dos.
If you do end up slipping behind, your boss wonât wonder: âWere they just procrastinating?â
It adds professionalism to your work. After all, who do you think would do better work: The person with the first answer, or the one who lays out all the details?
Even though Iâm not in #corporatelife anymore, I still use this soft skill all the timeâspecifically setting deadlines.
Technically, I donât have to set deadlines (Iâm the boss, after all), but assigning a concrete end date leverages another awesome productivity tactic called Parkinsonâs Law.
Parkinsonâs Law tells us this: The work will expand to fill the allotted time slot. In other words, when you set a deadline, you bump up productivity because you know you have a limited amount of time. Hereâs how you can visualize it:
Phew! We covered a lot today. To recap:
â The best soft skill: Practice taking initiative.
â When you over-communicate, you show your boss that youâre on top of your work.
â Setting deadlines is the secret to getting things done in less time.
May these tips set you up for your most productive 2024 yet. âš
Hours and minutes wonât sum together correctly in Excel? Try this. â°
