It’s Getting Chilly Up in Here ❄️

Yes, it’s technically still August—but all those pumpkin spice lattes at your local coffee shop tell us that colder days are coming. To prepare for the wintriness (yes, that’s a real word!), let’s learn how to freeze our panes in Excel.

“Freeze our what? Why would I need to do that?!”

I got you. Let’s say you’re dealing with a pretty large spreadsheet. Chances are, your headings vanish when you scroll down. Depending on how many columns you have this might get very confusing.

Freezing our panes lets us freeze our headers in place so they won’t budge if we scroll down. The best part? It takes less than a minute to set them up!

Step 1️⃣: Highlight the row below the area you wish to freeze. (It’s a weird rule, but hey). In our case, we’d highlight row three because we want to freeze row two.

Step 2️⃣: Navigate to the View tab in the ribbon and select Freeze Panes. Select the first option out of the three (also called Freeze Panes) as this is what’ll lock your desired column!

Step 3️⃣: Voila! Now when you scroll, the headers are frozen in place.

Should You Quit Your Job To Pursue Entrepreneurship?

When I started Miss Excel, I was a full-time employee at a consulting firm. The idea of quitting my job to grow Miss Excel didn’t even enter my mind at the time. I was just posting TikToks of Excel tips for fun (no courses or webinars yet!).

But then I went viral on TikTok. I asked myself, “How can I make an even bigger impact teaching Excel?” and got the idea for the Excelerator course. So I went OOO from my job for two weeks and started building. 💪

It wasn’t until two months after launching the course that I started earning more money from the course than my job. That’s when I had to sit down and re-evaluate my priorities. 😅 Spoiler: I put in my resignation that day.

Someone asked me: “Did having a full-time job decelerate Miss Excel’s initial growth?”

The answer: No! In fact, quite the opposite.

Entrepreneurship and creativity are a game of energetics. Having my job—which provided income and security—meant I could operate from a place of abundance and ease. In other words:

  • I wasn’t stressed.

  • I didn’t have to put enormous pressure on myself.

  • I wasn’t running in circles going, “If Miss Excel doesn’t grow soon it’s over!”

And that safe space allowed my creativity to flourish. 🌸

If you want to become an entrepreneur, my best advice is to preserve your creative energy as best as possible. And if that means staying at your day job, then do that!

Because when you approach your creative venture from a place of passion and play—instead of apprehension and anxiety—that’s when the magic really happens. ✨

Thanks for being here! Before we part ways, here’s one of my favorite recent tweets (which perfectly encapsulates that new month feeling). 💫

Stay Exceling,
