Conditional Formatting 101 🤓

“How am I going to find this data? I’m going to be here all night.” 🙃

That was what my co-worker said to me one day in 2017 during our 9–5. Our boss had asked them to highlight the top and bottom 10% of customers in a sea of data—and they needed it yesterday

That’s when I taught them the magic of conditional formatting. In just a few minutes, Excel did the heavy lifting and surfaced the numbers they needed. 

Here’s how I used Excel to grab the top 10% (and help them leave the office early!). 

Go to Home > Conditional Formatting > Top/Bottom Rules > Top 10% 

2) Choose a formatting option and hit Ok 

That’s it! To find the bottom 10%, just select Bottom 10% under the same menu.

  2. Make eye contact and say hello to everyone. 

  3. Smile and breathe. 

  4. Walk slowly (this signals confidence!) to your seat. 

It seems simple, but these small actions are powerful. They put others at ease, signal charisma, and build trust—qualities people naturally associate with leaders.

So try it at your next meeting, interview, or networking event! I promise you’ll notice the shift. Because when you set the energy of the room, you’re not just entering it—you’re owning it. 💫
