Conditional Formatting 101 🤓

“How am I going to find this data? I’m going to be here all night.” 🙃

That was what my co-worker said to me one day in 2017 during our 9–5. Our boss had asked them to highlight the top and bottom 10% of customers in a sea of data—and they needed it yesterday. 

That’s when I taught them the magic of conditional formatting. In just a few minutes, Excel did the heavy lifting and surfaced the numbers they needed. 

Here’s how I used Excel to grab the top 10% (and help them leave the office early!). 

That’s it! To find the bottom 10%, just select Bottom 10% under the same menu.
