How to Use Excel to Save Time âČ

A new year means new goals—and getting hours back of our time is a goal we can all get behind.

The first step to reclaiming that time? Learning new Excel shortcuts—especially when it comes to filling empty cells in Excel. I see people manually hunting through spreadsheets to find blank cells All. The. Time!

But there’s a better way. Let me show you how:

Step 1) Select all data (CTRL + A)

Step 2) Go to Special (CTRL + G)

Step 3) Select blanks (K) and press Enter

Step 4) Type in what you want filled. In our case, let’s go with ‘Missing’

Step 5) Press CTRL + Enter

Step 6) Select adjust formatting and you’re all set!

Five Easy Ways to Have More Fun in the Office in 2025

Many of us set similar goals each January: Hit the gym. Learn a new skill. Reduce our screen time. But here’s one you probably haven’t considered: Have more fun at work.

This might sound silly (or even counterproductive), but science says otherwise. Studies have shown that when we have fun, we release dopamine, which enhances our ability to learn, solve problems, and be creative.

In other words: Fun isn’t a distraction. It’s actually a productivity tool. 😯 So here are five easy ways to inject more fun into your 9–5:

  1. Listen to an ambient soundtrack at 5% volume (e.g. Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter) during your work tasks for a mystical touch. ✹

  2. Replace your standard email signature with quotes from your favorite books or movies—and rotate them weekly!

  3. Use rainbow-colored pens when taking notes (who said your notes had to be in blue or black ink?). 🌈

  4. Download custom cursors to replace your mouse with a sword, heart, or even lightning bolt. ⚡

  5. Learn new Excel shortcuts and save different sound effects for each one. (Heads up: Excel doesn’t support custom sounds so you’ll need to download third-party software!)

These simple tips pack a big punch. Give them a shot! Who knows—your best work yet might just be a rainbow pen and Harry Potter soundtrack away. 😉
