Bucket Your Data (and Get Buckets of Praise) đȘŁ
Imagine your boss asks you to bucket this đ data by sales threshold. Can you do it efficiently? Or will you end up typing everything manually?
Being able to automatically categorize or bucket data is one of those Excel skills you canât afford to miss. Back in my consulting days, my boss constantly relied on me to do just this!
Hereâs the go-to formula that saved me tons of time and got me buckets of praise (pun intended đ).
1. Type =XLOOKUP(
2. Select the lookup value
3. Select the sales threshold
4. Enter the sales ranking
5. Enter the highest ranking
6. Enter 1 for âExact Matchâ or next larger item! Close your formula and youâre all set.
Letâs take one final look at our formula: =XLOOKUP(B2:B12,F12:F14,E12:E14,E14,1)
There you have it. Happy Exceling! đ«
P.S. Is this formula not working for you? It might be because you have a different version of Excel. Check out my video with an alternative formula that might work instead!

Breaking the Cycle of Anxiety đ
Presenting to an audience, sharing an honest opinion with a coworker, attending networking eventsâthese were all things I used to avoid because they triggered my anxiety.
But when I started Miss Excel in 2020, I had no choice but to confront these situations head-on (building a business has a funny way of pushing you out of your comfort zone).
Why? Because avoiding these scenarios doesnât make them disappear. On the contraryâŠtackling them was key to growing Miss Excel:
To grow my audience â I had to get comfortable presenting.
To lead a team â I had to be honest with those around me.
To build connections â I had to start pulling up to networking events.
It was time to finally break the cycle of anxiety:
This cycle keeps us trappedâbecause we never actually get rid of our anxiety by avoiding stressful situations. Instead? It just builds up over time.
To stop the fear from growing, I had to start doing scary things. It wasnât easy, given Iâd spent years avoiding it all! But knowing my dream business was on the other side of that fear motivated me to Just. Get. Through. It. And today? I donât have anxiety about any of these things.
Whether youâre sidestepping learning Excel or asking for a raise, remember: Fear grows through avoidance. Squash that fear before it gets too bigâso you can become the person you want to be now and not âsomeday.â đ
Drowning in data? đ« Hereâs how to create an Excel search bar.
ICYMI: Python in Excel is now generally available.
Do these things first before you take your bad mood seriously.
